A Letter from Your Editor
Dear NYSORA Newsletter reader,
As the Summer ended and the memories of the 13th Annual NYSORA Symposium, Sept 20-21 2014, are still fresh, we dedicate this newsletter to the photographic memory of this NYSORA flagship event. Over 400 delegates from virtually all over the World attended this year's Annual Symposium! Even though the weather in New York was beautiful, crisp with sunny skies, the parallel sessions and workshop rooms were packed with delegates learning form and with NYSORA's international group of speakers.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming meetings,
Matt Becker NYSORA Newsletter Editor

Highlights from 13th Annual NYSORA Symposium NYC
This year's 2014 NYSORA Annual Symposium in New York City was a huge success! With delegates from roughly 40 different countries in attendance, the world came together to share and learn. The enthusiastic team of speakers and instructors shared their knowledge on a wide variety of topics and the conference was a continuous hustle and bustle of people eagerly hopping from hall to hall. The ultrasound scanning workshop, always a huge success, provided the international group of enthusiasts with a hands-on opportunity to learn and practice new techniques. Many vowed they would return to their practice and immediately start implementing many of the things they learned. The conference closed with an impromptu "overtime-session" that allowed many of the delegates in attendance to ask questions, and instructors were asked to repeat various blocks procedures. Various techniques were shared and everyone was given an opportunity to provide their own input on how they do certain procedures in their practice. Of course, NYSORA sent its attendees off with the trademark Manhattan Bout cruise where everyone enjoyed food and drink while cruising around the island. Until next year, always bigger and better than ever!
The NYSORA 13th Annual Symposium was preceded by the traditional networking event - NYSORA Bowling Competition at Lucky Strike.
Despite amazing weather with blue skies and relaxing, September-New York City-signature mild climate, NYSORA delegates proved to be in attendance for education and networking, rather than vacationing. As always at NYSORA, all parallel sessions were jam-packed.
Dr. Douglas Unis, an orthopedic surgeon shares his experience using Exparel, a liposomic bupivacaine for infiltration anesthesia after total knee replacement surgery.
Attentive audience at Dr. Mathew Kaufman's presentation on Interscalene block and phrenic nerve injury: Mechansim, treatment and means of prevention. Dr. Kaufman and his team published their experience of surgically treating 19 patients with disabling phrenic nerve injury after interscalene brachial plexus blocks in the Journal of Anesthesiology in 2013.
15 delegates from Belgium attended this year's edition of NYSORA's Annual Symposium, attesting to the international appeal of this NYSORA's largest CME annual program.
Japanese members of the NYSORA International Team, Doctors Shibata Yasuyuki and Yasuhiro Marimoto attentively listen to the presentation by Dr. Steven Orebaugh on prevention of complications with peripheral nerve blocks.
Ultrasound scanning extravaganza with Thorstein Steinfeldt at the NYSORA's signature comprehensive workshops.
Workshop for instructors - Andres Missair demonstrating the tricks and tips to successful saphenous, adductor canal and subsartorius blocks.
Dr Missair had this to say:
"I just wanted to thank NYSORA for letting me participate in this year's fall meeting. It's always a great time. What a program this year! The choice of lecture topics really nailed the current issues we encounter in clinical practice today. From Mariano's lecture series to Blanco's technical highlights, what a treat.
I think what really sets apart NYSORA from other conferences is the quality of its content, the camaraderie between faculty, and the opportunity for faculty to learn from each other in a relaxed environment."
- Andres Missair
Abstract competition and presentation at 13th NYSORA Annual Symposium lead by Thomas Halaszynski, MD.
Maria Fernandez-Gomez Mafe demonstrating the technique of seratus anterior and PECs blocks at the "Instructors Workshop" at 13th NYSORA Symposium.
Plan early - Do not miss the 14th Edition of NYSORA's fabled Annual Symposium September 19-20, 2015, New York, NY. Be there!
