August 2014 - Newsletter
New NYSORA Teaching Illustrations In this issue: |
Dear NYSORA Newsletter Reader, We hope your summer has been great. Ours here at NYSORA has been pretty busy with all that is going on in the coming year. Regardless, in this Newsletter edition we opted to keep things on the lighter side (appropriate for Summer) and share only some news and a few activities about which we are very excited. For one, NYSORA launches its first Winter Inspire Symposium in Mt. Tremblant, Quebec in January 2015. These seminars are titled Inspire for good reason. Dr. Matt Levine explains this reason in his interview in this edition. Also, the time is nearing quickly for the NYSORA's Annual Flagship Symposium in NYC - be sure to reserve your spot in supercharged parallel sessions or one several workshops that are being offered. Finally, the NYSORA team has been working on a range of new teaching illustrations and we are sharing only a few as a preview. We are very excited about what we have produced and hope you enjoy them as well. Looking forward to seeing you at one of the NYSORA offerings soon. Sincerely, Matt Becker |

NYSORA Launches Inspire Seminars The new NYSORA Inspire Seminars aim to strike a balance between education and leisure for busy clinicians. Delegates can use this opportunity to bring back value to their clinical or academic practices by earning CME credits in the morning hours while spending an ample amount of down-time or quality time after the sessions. The seminars are hosted in some of the most unique locations worldwide, allowing a wide array of activities while providing an ideal environment for brainstorming away from the everyday practice of medicine. Spend a relaxing week with top NYSORA instructors attending talks and daily ultrasound scanning and return home ready to rock! For this newsletter we took an opportunity to interview one of NYSORA's international faculty at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Dr. Matt Levine and discuss the upcoming program in Mont Tremblant: Drs Matt and Alicia Levine with their sons Reuben and Theo @ NYSORA's Headquarters in NYC
Q: How is this program going to be structured differently than the typical vacation meetings? M: This seminar is going to break the mold in a number of ways. First of all, the quality of the faculty is outstanding - these guys are truly the best in the field. They are amazing teachers and they also practice what they teach! Second, there is going to be a real emphasis on audience participation - asking questions, directing the speakers to specific topics of interest, as well as quizzes and prizes. Third is the balance between work and play. Delegates can choose to take it easy by only attending the half day of lectures each day and using the afternoons to relax, or they can push themselves a little more and attend some of the interactive, hands-on workshops that will be running in the afternoons. NYSORA Instructors in Action Q: Why you should attend? M: Why on earth wouldn't you?!? This is going to be an amazing opportunity to learn from some of the top regional anesthesia experts in world at one of the most beautiful mountain resorts in North America. If the academic program and skiing opportunities aren't enough to entice you, then your should bear in mind that, as with all NYSORA events, there will be ample opportunities for networking and socializing with both the faculty and other delegates. NYSORA Instructors in Action Q: How to make the best out of NYSORA inspire seminars? M: I think anybody attending these seminars will get something out of it, but to make the most of it I think you need to be in a frame of mind where you can match the passion and enthusiasm of the instructors. I also suggest that you compile some questions that you want to ask - whether it's a little detail that you haven't managed to find the answer to, or a tricky clinical case that you want to get some advice or opinions about, you'll have opportunities to pick the brains of some of the top people in the field. If you can't get the answer from these guys, then chances are you won't get an answer anywhere! There are lots of exciting activities to do in Mont Tremblant. Click here for more info NYSORA September Symposium This year's Symposium will be the largest and most ambitious to date, including intense parallel programs with some of the most sought-after national and international speakers, with a multitude of highly versatile and focused workshops. The Symposium will offer a comprehensive update on the latest developments in regional anesthesia, acute pain management and perioperative medicine and will present the best current regional anesthesia techniques and practice protocols. Some 500 delegates are expected to attend our two parallel sessions and innovative workshops. New this year is the NYSORA THINK-TANK (NTT) lecture series. Key opinion leaders in the field will deliver 20-minute lectures followed by 10-minute discussions with the audience. Each NTT talk will be literature-supported with a balanced view for the practicing clinician and based on an in-depth synthesis of the speaker's own clinical insight and research.
